Police investigate incident at Ngawi camp site

1 min read

Police are investigating an incident at a camp site in Ngawi on the evening of Sunday 16 December 2018 which resulted in a man being shot in the leg.

At around 10.30pm that night, a group of men arrived at the camp site in a vehicle, and confonted a 46-year-old man who was staying there.

After a short verbal exchange, a shot was fired by one of the group, hitting the 46-year-old man.

The victim sustained a single bullet wound to his thigh. He received medical treatment at Wairarapa Hospital and was discharged the following day.

Police believe the incident may have been retaliation for a family harm incident that occurred in Martinborough earlier in the evening, and that the offenders are known to the victim.

To assist our enquiries, we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident at the camp site and has not yet spoken to Police.

We would also like to hear from anyone who may have CCTV footage from the main arterial route between Martinborough and Ngawi, showing vehicles travelling to or from the camp site that night.
