Christchurch Police are this afternoon interviewing an 18-year old male in relation to two sexual assaults last night and this morning.
Police have been investigating the reported sexual violation of a 17-year old female at around midnight last night.
The incident was reported to have occurred in a vehicle in the vicinity of Pound Road at the rear of Christchurch Airport. The vehicle, a white 1990 Nissan Primera saloon, was recovered by Police shortly after the incident.
Police believe the alleged offender was known to the victim.
In what Police believe to be a related incident, an investigation is also under way into the alleged abduction and sexual assault of an 11-year old girl in North Canterbury this morning.
The girl was reported to have been abducted by a male from a park in Loburn at about 9.30am. She was later located by members of the public on a rural road.
The vehicle she was believed to be in was the subject of a police pursuit in the Loburn area at around 11.00 this morning.
The vehicle, a blue 1999 Subaru Legacy saloon, collided with a power pole, injuring the sole occupant, an 18-year old male.
He suffered moderate injuries and received treatment at Christchurch Hospital. He was released into Police custody late this afternoon.
Detective Sergeant Jason Stewart says investigators are now speaking to the 18-year old in relation to both of the above incidents.
Both victims have received medical treatment and are being supported by family and by support services.
Police are asking that anyone who saw the blue Subaru Legacy saloon this morning in the Loburn and North Canterbury area contact their local Police station or call Christchurch Central Police on 3637400.
Anyone who saw the white Nissan Primera saloon, in and around Pound Road and Christchurch Airport late last night or early this morning, is also asked to contact Police.
Alternatively, to provide information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
