Police have located the bike and tent belonging to the German tourist who was assaulted in Northland last week.
About 6pm on Thursday November 13 the 48-year-old man was taken to the Waipu Medical Centre with serious head and facial injuries. He was dropped off at the medical centre by a member of the public.
Police have found the man’s tent and bike in a forestry area about 150 metres off Cove Road between Mangawhai Heads and Langs Beach. All the man’s other possessions, including his passport, travel documents, and clothes, were not at the scene.
The man had cycled from Wellsford that day and had gone into the forest area to camp.
Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the man cycling from Wellsford to Mangawhai Heads and along Cove Road towards Langs Beach on November 13.
He was riding a green bicycle and was wearing a black lycra suit and dark coloured helmet.
Police would also like to hear from a man called Steve who dropped the man off at the medical centre on Thursday night.
The man is still in hospital recovering from head and facial injuries. He would like to thank people for their generosity and assistance since the assault.
