Police say they would welcome the opportunity to speak to people about their experiences at the Gloriavale community in light of recent allegations in the media by ex-community members.
Tasman Police District Commander Superintendent Karyn Malthus said today that anyone who wished to discuss their experience while living within the community should feel confident in approaching local police.
"We are aware of certain allegations which have recently been made in the media and we would like to fully understand what these mean. We would welcome further information about this or any other matter, which will help Police assess how to proceed from here.
“I would like to assure anyone who is considering approaching Police that they will be dealt with professionally and with empathy by staff who are trained to deal with sensitive issues.
"We understand that it may be a difficult decision to talk to Police, but it is important that anyone with concerns should have the opportunity to discuss their experience with Police and have their voice heard.
"While Police do not require a complaint to act, we do need to have all relevant information available to us to determine what, if any, further steps may be required," Superintendent Malthus said.
