At around 2.50pm Christchurch Police were called to the dairy Bowhill Road in Christchurch in response to a report of a robbery.
Detective Sergeant Chris Power said that “Two men have entered the store, both armed with hammers and demanded money from the till. During the robbery the sole female shop assistant was grabbed by one of the offenders and threatened with the hammer, but luckily her injuries are minor. This incident had the potential for serious injury, and police would like anyone with information that may assist the identification of these offenders to get in touch with us.
The offenders left the dairy empty-handed after family members of the shop assistant, present in a back room, responded to the noise.
Police are looking for two men, both are either Maori or Polynesian and aged 18-20 years.
The first offender is described as medium build, around 183cm (6 feet) tall, wearing black pants, a black cap and an untucked white t-shirt under a royal blue Nike sweatshirt with a white Nike swoosh over the left breast.
The second offender is described as shorter, stockier and wearing a black baseball cap, black rugby shorts and a black singlet that has a red or orange decal on the front. This male was carrying a maroon-coloured bag that he has left behind as he fled the scene.
The store will be closed for the evening while a scene examination is conducted. (25/01/16 – 1700hrs)
