Canterbury Police received a report of a burglary at a rented residential property in Rolleston at around 12.30pm this afternoon (27 March 2015). The firearm safe was broken into and a number of firearms are understood to be missing. There are no reports of ammunition or any other items being taken during the burglary.
Canterbury Metro Commander, Superintendent Lane Todd, says “We would like to reassure the public that this incident is being treated seriously and encourage anyone who has any information relating to this or notices any suspicious behaviour to contact Police.”
Neighbours report seeing two unknown men loading items into the boot of a red/burgundy car, possibly a 2-door Mazda Eunos, outside the property between 11-12 noon.
One man is described as Caucasian, 180cm tall with short mousey brown/blonde hair wearing a grey hoodie. The other man is described as in his mid 20’s, 180cm tall with short dark brown hair and wearing a black hoodie. It is unclear which of the two men drove the car, but witness report that the driver had distinctive tattoos on his neck and arms.
Canterbury Police investigations are continuing.
