Auckland City Police are investigating the carjacking and assault of an elderly woman at lunchtime today and are appealing for sightings of two cars.

At 11.59am Police were called to the Lagoon Stadium (YMCA) on Lagoon Drive in Panmure.

The victim, a woman aged in her late sixties, is undergoing medical treatment at the moment and Police are waiting to speak to her in greater detail, but it appears at this stage that she was driving into the YMCA carpark in her car, when a red 2002 Honda Fit hatchback with three people inside has also arrived.

Two women, described as young and of Maori or Pacific Island descent, have got out and pulled the elderly lady from her car. The victim has tried to run away but the offenders have chased her and have then assaulted her. They have then got into the victim’s car and both vehicles have left.

The victim has been taken to Auckland hospital in a status 2 (moderate to serious injuries) condition with head and facial injuries.

A number of detectives are now working through the circumstances.

The offenders remain at large and efforts to locate them are ongoing.

The car stolen from the victim is a grey 2010 Toyota Corolla, rego is FQP125.

The red Honda Fit was reported stolen earlier today, the rego is EZD733.

Anyone who sees these cars or anyone who saw the persons described in the red Honda Fit prior to, or after today’s incident is asked to call Police immediately on 111.
