Levin Police are appealing for help from the public after the robbery of ATM cash canisters from Armourguard staff at the Levin Mall yesterday afternoon (Thursday 10 October).
At 1:30pm two Armourguard staff entered the Salisbury Street side of the Levin Mall and were carrying cash canisters for the purpose of refilling an ATM.
During this process a vehicle with three occupants has stopped by the entrance and a man has exited the vehicle and grabbed two canisters from the Armourguard staff.
The man has then run back to the vehicle and was chased by the Armourguard staff, and during the chase he has dropped one of the canisters. He has managed to make it back to the vehicle with the other canister and the driver has quickly driven away.
The vehicle used in the robbery is described as a 1990 black two-door hatch Toyota Starlet registration FZZ986.
Police located the vehicle yesterday at 5pm on Tawa Street, Levin, and it is currently undergoing an examination. CCTV footage from the mall is also being reviewed.
Detective Sergeant Peter Vine of the Levin CIB says that a lot of people were at the mall when the robbery took place and officers are keen to speak to those that witnessed the incident.
"The mall was quite busy at this time and many people would have witnessed the robbery and seen the vehicle and its occupants. We are very keen to speak to these people as well as anyone that saw the Toyota vehicle between 1pm and 5pm yesterday afternoon.
"The public play a vital part in helping us resolve crimes and we encourage anyone with information to contact Police," says Mr Vine.
