Police and Plunket working together to keep our tamariki safe

NZ Police and Plunket will be working together to promote the safe and correct use of child restraints.
 
Plunket car seat technicians and local police officers will be at Park Road near Hillcrest Road in Kaikohe between 8 and 9am this Monday 20 March. 
 
“Come down and have your child restraint checked," says Senior Constable Matthew Cotching. 
 
“Having a child restraint in the car is great – but it's just as important that it’s correctly fitted and used. Unfortunately it is common to find child restraints that have not been installed correctly, or that need the straps adjusted to fit the child correctly. It is important to check child restraints regularly to keep our child safe.
 
“I’d also like to remind parents to restrain babies and young children in the back seats of your cars, away from the impact of the airbag. If you are in a crash, your wee ones are much safer in the back.”

Northland has the highest incidence of death or serious injury on the road per head of population. “Correct use can literally make the difference between life and death,” says Senior Constable Cotching.
