Canterbury Police have released the name of the pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle on State Highway 1 south of Hinds, early on Friday morning [18 April].
He was Alan Hammond, aged 80, of Ashburton.
Police have confirmed that the driver of the vehicle which struck the pedestrian was spoken to by officers at the scene.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are continuing.
