Over $5,000 of property stolen from tourists in Christchurch

1 min read

At about 7:00pm on Friday 10 June, 2016 three tourists from Germany, France and Italy parked their Jucy Rental Campervan on Byron Street, Sydenham and walked into Christchurch City for dinner.

They returned to their campervan at about 9:30pm and found that the side window of the vehicle had been smashed and just over $5,000 worth of property had been stolen.

It appears the offenders have smashed the side window and have taken three backpacks and two packs then left the area.

Thankfully, all three of the victims had their passports, credit cards and purses with them. However, the packs that were stolen had the victims’ hard drives and cameras with photos and videos of the last 10 months of their holiday in Australia and New Zealand.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the Byron Street, Sydenham area between 7:00pm-9:30pm on Friday night who may have seen something, or anyone who has information relevant to this investigation.

Anyone with information can contact Christchurch Police on 03 3637400 or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
