Manawatu Police have now completed the scene examination at Taieri Court.
A blessing and karakia was performed at the scene before it was released this afternoon.
A search of the wider scene was also completed.
Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan says: “The area around where the victim’s body was found is densely populated and our area inquiries will continue into the weekend.”
“We believe we now know the identity of the victim and the only further details police can release at this stage is that he is in his mid 20s and from the Manawatu.
“Every effort is being made to contact his family and provide them with the appropriate support.
“The post mortem is expected to run into late this evening and once this is completed, and his next of kin has been advised, we will be in a position to release his name which is likely to be tomorrow.”
No further updates will be issued this evening. A further update is expected to be issued after 10am tomorrow (Saturday 8 August, 2015).
