The scene examination at Taieri Court, Palmerston North, where a body was located this morning is ongoing.
Police can now confirm the body is that of a male, however no further identification information is available at this stage.
Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan says: “The man’s body is expected to be removed from the scene this evening and a post mortem is scheduled for tomorrow.”
“Our primary focus at this stage is to identify the man so we can advise his family.
“While we are confident that he is not from the immediate area, our area canvass is ongoing and officers are continuing to speak to residents.”
A team of 25 officers are currently working on the homicide inquiry.
The scene examination will run into the evening and tomorrow.
Another update on this investigation is expected to be issued mid-morning tomorrow (Friday 7 August, 2015).
