An additional ten Police staff have today joined the Operation Nepal investigation team, as the enquiry into who killed 69 year-old Te Atatu woman Cun Xiu Tian continues.

A post-mortem examination on Saturday found that Madam Tian had been the victim of a vicious and prolonged assault and had suffered a violent death.

Criminal profilers from the NZ Police specialist profiling unit have travelled to the scene this morning, to examine and assess the scene at the property where Madam Tian died.

Investigators are continuing to gather and review CCTV footage from the wider Te Atatu area. Detectives are still going door-to-door in the Te Atatu area and speaking to residents.

“We understand the community is very shaken by this and fully appreciate their concern, this is an appalling crime and again I want to reassure the people of Te Atatu that we are doing everything we can to identify and apprehend the person responsible” says Detective Senior Sergeant Roger Small, Waitemata Police.

Intelligence analysts are continuing to look at any suspicious or criminal behaviour that was reported to Police in the days leading up to the attack on Madam Tian, but Police are still appealing for anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour, had an attempted break-in that they didn’t report or anyone who noticed jemmy marks on their doors and windows to ring the 0800 number (0800 77 22 71).

ENDS

Media – Det Snr Sgt Roger Small will hold a press conference at 3pm at the scene. Due to operational commitments this will be the only interview opportunity today.
