2 min read

At 11.08am this morning Police were called to an address in Luanda Drive, Ranui following reports of a shooting.

Police attended and the body of a 23 year-old man was found lying on a shared driveway. Ambulance staff confirmed that the man was deceased.

Around the same time, a 20 year-old man arrived at Waitakere Hospital with serious wounds to his head and neck area. He was taken to the hospital in a 4 wheel-drive vehicle by two people.

The 4 wheel-drive then left the hospital and was stopped by Police on Triangle Road. At this stage two people are assisting with enquiries and a number of people are being spoken to by Police.

"We're trying to piece together exactly what has taken place and why. The enquiry is in the very early stages and we have a number of people we need to speak to. We're not able to speculate on any possible reasons for the shooting just yet" says Detective Inspector Bruce Scott, Waitemata Police.

The vehicle that was stopped on Triangle Road has been seized by Police for forensic examination.

A full scene examination is underway in Luanda Drive. Police can confirm that a firearm was located near the body of the deceased man this morning. His name will not be released until he is formally identified, which is expected to take place tomorrow.

The injured 20 year-old man was transferred to Auckland City Hospital and is undergoing surgery. His condition is believed to be serious.

Neighbours and people who were in the area at the time will be spoken to by Police over the next few days, however Police would like to hear from anyone with information that may also assist the enquiry. Anyone with information is asked to contact Henderson Police on 09 839 0600, or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
