Late yesterday Wellington Police arrested and charged a male with murder as part of the homicide investigation into the violent death of Mei FAN. The man will appear in the Wellington District Court today.
Detective Senior Sergeant John van den Heuvel says "This has been an extended and complex investigation involving many phases."
"Our motivation throughout has been to bring justice for Mei and her children and they have remained at the forefront of investigator's minds."
"The past five months have been a very difficult time for the family and the Operation Brussels team is pleased to have reached this milestone in the investigation."
"Mei's family and friends have provided valuable information to the inquiry and we wish to thank them for their support."
"There have been several appeals for information from the public and retailers who have been swift to come forward to help and we are grateful for their assistance too."
"Now that an arrest has been made it may be easier for people to come forward with new information who have not yet done so and we would invite them to contact us if this is the case."
"As the matter is now before the courts, I am limited in any further comment I can make."
