Canterbury Police can confirm that one person is deceased following a serious crash at a stop-sign controlled intersection at Goulds Road and Leeston Road this morning (23 February 2015).
The driver and passenger of the vehicle travelling north-bound along Goulds Road are uninjured but are shaken. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle travelling north-bound on Leeston Road was initially trapped and has now been confirmed as deceased at the scene.
The death has been referred to the Coroner who will determine cause of death. No details of the deceased or those involved will be released until the process to inform next of kin has been completed.
Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
The road will remain closed and diversions in place for at least the next two hours while Canterbury Police Serious Crash Unit undertake a scene examination and the area is cleared.
Canterbury Police urge the public to avoid the area where possible as delays are likely while diversions are in place.
