A 26-year-old man has been arrested following an incident in Paraparaumu on Sunday.
The man has been charged with Wounding with Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm and is due to appear in Porirua District Court on Tuesday 15 May.
Police were called to the Kapiti Lights complex about 9pm on Sunday following a report that a woman had been struck in the head with a screwdriver, causing a gash to her forehead. She was taken to Wellington Hospital for treatment.
The alleged offender was arrested at the nearby BP Station.
“This was a domestic incident, not a random attack. Even so, Police recognise the Kapiti Lights area can be hotspot and will be increasing patrols at night to prevent further offending,” Detective Sergeant Rebecca Cotton says.
“Police would like to thank two brave members of the public who helped the victim escape and have since assisted with our enquiries."
Anyone with information relating to this incident is urged to contact Kapiti Police on 04 296 6800 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
