Northland Police will be opening the doors of five stations to members of the public for the first ever National Open Day on Saturday, June 14.
Whangärei, Dargaville, Kerikeri, Kaikohe and Kaitaia stations will be open from 1pm - 3pm that day.
Northland Police District Commander Superintendent Russell Le Prou says the public will be able to come along and see what a modern Police service looks like.
"We want to show Northlanders some of the new tools and methods we use to prevent crime and road trauma and how we work together with communities and other agencies to ensure the community feels safe and is safe."
Mr Le Prou says one of these new tools is the District Command Centre (DCC), which is located in the Whangärei Station.
"The DCC oversees and monitors many of our prevention tactics and ensures that Northland Police is ahead of the game in preventing crime and ensuring less victims.
On our Open Day, the public will be able to see first hand how the DCC operates."
During the Open Day each station will have a police dog and handler, a static Armed Offenders Squad display, and police patrol car on display. The public will be able to meet their local police, who will give them guided tours around the stations.
"Bring your family and friends along and enjoy a couple of hours in your local police station."
The National Open Day takes place in all the police districts around the country, as well as the Royal NZ Police College.
It is the first time New Zealand Police has opened its doors to the community on a national scale.
