North Shore Police ask public to be vigilant following second indecent exposure in Belmont/Devonport area

2 min read

North Shore Police are asking the Devonport/Belmont community to be vigilant, following a second case where a man has indecently exposed himself to a young girl in two weeks.

At around 10am this morning a 10 year-old girl was cycling with her friends along Seacliffe Avenue in Belmont.

A man was sitting in the front passenger seat of a navy-blue car. He had the door open and his feet on the footpath and as the girl cycled past he smiled and exposed himself to her.

The man's description is similar to that of another case in Devonport on Monday 19 January, where a man exposed himself to a 10 year-old girl.

Detective Kellie Osborne, North Shore Police says, "In both cases the man has been described as having short, brown, spikey hair. He's aged between 35-40 years old, solid build, and is described as a european with tan skin. He's also described as wearing a high-vis top that's orange with black trim around the bottom. Anyone who has seen a person fitting this description in that area is asked to contact us"

The vehicle in the Devonport incident was described as a white van. The desciption from this morning's incident is a blue-coloured vehicle. The woman who was the subject of last week's media appeal after she assisted the young girl in Devonport was identified and has provided a statement to Police.

"Our enquiries are ongoing but in the meantime with children going to back to school it's a good time for parents to have a chat to their children about keeping themselves safe and we have a range of information on our website that can help with that" says Detective Osborne.

Anyone who observes suspicious activity should call 111 immediately. For anything that is not immediately taking place or any other information then please call Detective Osborne on 09 477 5000.

Information can also be given anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
