Police Minister Michael Woodhouse will officially launch the national roll-out of Booze Bus Biometrics on Thursday.
Media are invited to find out first-hand how police will use the system to confirm within minutes the identities of people they intend to charge with certain drink-driving offences, by electronically scanning fingerprints, taking digital photographs and comparing the data to exiting Police records.
The Minister will be shown the system on the Wellington District booze bus. Booze Bus Biometrics will be installed in all 21 of Police’s booze buses by the end of November.
The Minister, Assistant Commissioner Road Policing Dave Cliff, and Wellington District Commander Superintendent Sam Hoyle will be available for interview.
