Police would like to invite media to attend the launch of the NZ Police 75th Anniversary of Women in Policing celebrations in Auckland this Friday, 9.15am at the Auckland Town Hall Councillor’s Lounge.
On Friday it will be 75 years to the day that the first 10 women went into Police training in 1941.
The Minister of Police and Police Commissioner will be attending, as well as a number of current policewomen and retired policewomen, whose service ranges from the 1940s to 1990s.
Six current officers will be modelling replica uniforms from throughout the decades including the memorable 1960’s mini-skirt and boots with uniform handbags.
There will be a photo opportunity of our uniform models and, following the official ceremony, media will be invited to a morning tea to mingle and interview retired policewomen.
The retired officers’ service spans from 1943 to the 1990s. Their varied careers include time on the frontline and in Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), plus involvement in major historical events such as the Rainbow Warrior bombing and the Wahine disaster.
