A man found dead in a lagoon in Whakatane yesterday has been identified as 60-year-old local man Christopher John Erlbeck.
Mr Erlbeck was located at approximately 3.30pm in the afternoon face down in the Awatapu Lagoon on Awatapu Drive close to a vertical bank approximately 1.5 steep. Also in the water was Mr Erlbeck’s electric wheelchair.
Enquiries are ongoing into how Mr Erlbeck died but there are no suspicious circumstances and the matter has been referred to the Coroner.
There will be no further police comment.
