Man charged in relation to burglary in Redwood

Canterbury Police received a report of an intruder, with minor injuries, in the Redwood suburb of Christchurch at approx 10pm on Saturday (21 February 2015) by a young teenager who was home alone.  The teenage occupant did the right thing in reporting the incident to Police and was not injured during the incident.  After a short search an injured man was located at a nearby property.

A 24 year old man will appear in Christchurch District court today (23 February 2015) charged with burglary and peeping and peering.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jason Stewart encourages anyone who has seen or heard anything suspicious in the northern part of the Redwood suburb of Christchurch in the last month to contact Police. 

This teenager acted appropriately by calling Police and not approaching the intruder. 

Detective Senior Sergeant Stewart said “The teenagers quick thinking and 111 call ultimately led to Police locating a person of interest a short time later.  We recommend anyone facing a similar situation calls 111 immediately.”

Police investigations are continuing and anyone with any information that may be of use to the investigation is asked to call Police on 03 363 7400, option 5.
