A 66 year-old American man will appear in the Kaikohe District Court this afternoon, after a fatal motor vehicle crash in Northland on Saturday night.
He is charged with the following ;
-Careless use of a motor vehicle causing death x 2
-Careless use of a motor vehicle causing injury x 1
The accused, who is visiting New Zealand, was driving a car which collided with a northbound vehicle on State Highway 10, at the junction of Puketona Road in Oromahoe.
Inside that car were four occupants.
Kylee Anne Rakich, aged 29 years old of Ahipara, died at the scene.
Virginia Keogh, aged 44 years old of Whangarei, also died at the scene.
The 21 year-old man driving the car was airlifted to Whangarei Hospital in a status 2 condition.
An 8 year-old child was also taken to hospital.
Police and Victim Support are working to support the families involved.
