1 min read

Canterbury Police have arrested a man following reports of a burglary in the Fendalton suburb of Christchurch shortly before 11am this morning (23 March 2015).

The victims were in the process of moving into their new home today and while they were away from the property a neighbour noticed a different car in the driveway.  As the neighbour approached the house the owners returned and parked behind the unknown car.

The driver of the unknown car is understood to have returned to his vehicle when approached by the neighbour and homeowner.  The driver is reported to have rammed the homeowners vehicle and fence as they fled the scene.

Canterbury Police officers located the vehicle as it drove through St Albans and it was stopped a short time later.

A 35 year old local man has been charged with driving while forbidden, burglary, dangerous driving and failing to stop for Police.  He is due to appear in Christchurch District Court tomorrow (24 March 2015).

Canterbury Police investigations are ongoing.

Canterbury Police would like to thank the neighbour and homeowner for their quick actions in reporting the incident and providing a full description of the fleeing vehicle.
