Man arrested after threats made on building site in Ashburton

1 min read

Canterbury Police can confirm that a man who is reported to have made threats to contractors on a building site this morning has been arrested.

Senior Sergeant Scott Banfield says the man had a heated argument with his employer and is understood to have made comments about using a firearm.  “The contractor reported the incident to Ashburton District Council, who employed the contractor, at around 11.30am.  The Council assessed the situation and, in line with their procedures, decided to close the public counter as a precaution.  They reported the incident to Police a short time later.  Inquiries led to the man being arrested without incident at a residential address and an air rifle being seized.”

A 58 year old man has been issued with a pre-charge warning for threatening behaviour and has been referred to psyc services for assessment.
