The 21 year-old victim of an assault in Lower Hutt on Sunday has died overnight.
The victim was Jardin Whanga-Elliot, from the Hutt Valley.
Mr Whanga-Elliot suffered life-threatening injuries on Sunday morning after he was chased from a party attended by over 30 people in Cleland Crescent.
Police are now treating this as a homicide inquiry and are working to piece together what happened.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the attack or anyone who may have attended the party on Saturday night.
