Waitakere Police are investigating the knife-point robbery of a woman on a Waitakere Falls walking track this morning.
The victim, aged in her thirties, was walking on the Upper Nihotupo Reservoir track at around 10.45am. She was around 5 minutes away from the car-park on Piha Road, when two men with their faces covered emerged from the bush.
One of the men had a knife and demanded money. The victim had no cash and the offenders took the woman’s jewellery; a necklace, rings, bracelet and watch.
The two men fled and the victim ran to the car-park and waved down a passing Police car. A search by the Police Eagle Helicopter, a dog unit and ground patrols did not locate the offenders.
The victim, who is also 5 months pregnant, was taken to hospital for a check-up and though shaken, was not physically harmed.
The offenders are described as the following;
1. A male Maori or Pacific Islander aged his late 20’s, with a solid/muscular build. He is described as wearing a black hoody, dark jeans with rips in the legs and dark-coloured sandshoes.
2. A male Caucasian aged in his late 20’s, around 165cm tall, with a thin build. He is described as wearing a baggy red hoody, faded low-cut jeans and possibly brown sand shoes.
Police would like to speak with anyone who was in the Piha Road/Upper Nihotupo Reservoir area at the time and saw anyone fitting the description, or behaviour which appeared suspicious.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Waitakere Police on 09 839 0629. Information can also be given anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
