Karaoke bar out of tune with Alcohol Act

1 min read

A recent Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority (ARLA) decision to cancel an Auckland karaoke bar’s alcohol licence highlights the consequences of licensees' repeated failures to meet their obligations under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act, Police say.

Mini Karaoke’s alcohol license was cancelled after repeated breaches of the Act between November 2013 and July 2015.

“It is important that licensees meet all their obligations under the Act so that we can minimise alcohol related harm in our communities," Senior Sergeant Chris Scott of the Auckland Alcohol Harm Prevention Unit says.

"Breaches of the Act involving minors or intoxication at premises are most concerning to Police and the wider community."

The Auckland City Police Alcohol Harm Prevention Unit works with licenced premises to help minimise alcohol related harm.

The Unit also regularly inspects premises, including karaoke bars, to ensure there is compliance with the law and they are doing everything necessary to help create safe environments for customers and neighbouring communities.
