Police investigating the death of a man in Taupo are seeking information about a black back-pack belonging to the man.
The appeal relates to the death of 45-year-old Oscar Olsen in Taupo who was found deceased in the Waikato River downstream of Huka Falls on Tuesday (2 June).
There is still nothing to indicate that Mr Olsen’s death is suspicious, but police are continuing investigations to assist the Coroner, and the back-pack he was known to carry with him has not been recovered.
It is described as being about 30 litres in size, possibly with red and white straps. It likely contains a number of baseball caps and rugby league shirts.
It is still unknown how Mr Olsen reached Taupo. His last known location was in Gisborne on Friday, 22 May, so police are still keen to hear from anyone who can shed some light on his movements between 22 May and 2 June and anyone who knows the location of his back-pack.
Mr Olsen is described as part Maori, slim build with dark hair worn in different styles. He was approximately 179cm tall.
If anyone has any information that might assist police enquiries into Mr Olsen’s death, they are asked to contact Taupo Police on 07 378 6060. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
