Canterbury Police are following a positive line of inquiry to locate the fleeing driver involved in a slow speed crash with a parked car in the St Martins area of Christchurch at 10.47am yesterday (22 April 2015). The driver fled the scene of the crash on foot.
The fleeing vehicle was impounded by Police and a number of items were seized including a quantity of drugs.
Cordons were established to contain the area around the scene.
Officers spoke to all the residents within the cordon urging them to not let any strangers into their house and report any suspicious activity to Police straight away. Some residents returned to the area while cordons were in place and asked Police to escort them home as they had left their property unsecured. The fleeing driver was not located in any of these unsecured properties.
Cordons were taken down approximately two hours after the crash.
At around 4pm yesterday afternoon one of the residents within the area that had been cordoned contacted Police advising that they had been approached by an unknown man at around 3pm who had asked to use the phone. He was picked up by unidentified person(s) in a car a short time later. Inquiries are ongoing to determine whether the unknown man was the fleeing driver or another person in the area.
