Injured police officer discharged from hospital

1 min read

The police officer who suffered a hand injury during the incident at Onepu Springs Road in the Bay of Plenty has now been discharged from hospital.

The other officer who suffered a head injury remains in Waikato Hospital where his condition is stable.

On behalf of all the injured staff we would like to express our appreciation to the community in the Bay of Plenty and beyond for the messages of support and concern for their wellbeing which we have received.

We understand the ongoing interest from media in seeking comment from these staff, however at this time there will be no individual comment made from any of the staff involved or their families.

Name suppression remains in place for the four injured staff, and we expressly request that they and their families are not approached by media for comment as they have asked for privacy.

Police are working to lift the cordons at Onepu Springs Road as soon as possible. We would like to thank nearby residents for their patience while the detailed scene examination is carried out, which requires the road to remain closed at this time.
