Three people have been taken into Police custody following an incident on the Southern Motorway in Auckland this evening.
Shortly after 7pm, a person in a vehicle travelling southbound was seen by a passing police vehicle pointing what was thought to be a firearm out the window.
Officers stopped the vehicle just south of the Papakura exits.
The southbound lanes were closed while armed Police took the female driver and two male occupants of the vehicle into custody without incident.
The trio are assisting Police with inquiries.
The motorway reopened just before 7:50pm.
