A hunter is believed to have been shot accidentally in the Ruahines Ranges in Central Hawke's Bay.
Police were alerted around 11.30am by a member of a hunting party who reported a man had been shot accidentally on the Sparrowhawk Track. A rescue helicopter from Palmerston North is on its way to the scene and search and rescue teams are being organised to go into the park if necessary.
A dog is also believed to have been injured. No details are available regarding the identity of the man who was shot or the people in the hunting party.
