1 min read

Canterbury Police investigating the death of five year old Leon Michael leFleming Jayet-Cole have arrested a 34 year old man.

The 34 year old man is in Police custody and is due to appear in Christchurch District Court on 3 June 2015 charged with murder.

For legal reasons Canterbury Police cannot confirm the identity of this person.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Anderson says “Our investigation has led to the arrest of a man who is known to the victim.   While the investigation will continue to focus on the events of 27 May 2015 we are also working with other government agencies to build a full picture of what has led to this tragic event.”

“The scene examination of the residential property in Papanui was completed on Saturday evening (30 May 2015) and a number of items have been seized for forensic examination.  A post mortem was carried out on Friday afternoon (29 May 2015).  The dedicated investigative team will continue to work tirelessly to ascertain why a ‘normal’ day for Leon ended as it did” explained Detective Senior Sergeant Anderson.

Further information will be provided as and when appropriate to this ongoing investigation.

Due to the operational demands of the investigation Canterbury Police does not have anyone available to undertake media interviews at this time.

Note:  media enquiries should be referred to Canterbury Police District Communications Manager.
