Northland Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a 37-year-old man.
Police were called to Whangarei St John Ambulance Station at around 6.40am this morning and were informed by ambulance staff that a male had been dropped off in a critical condition and died shortly after.
Detective Inspector Kevin Burke says police have now identified two addresses of interest in both Central Whangarei and north of Whangarei. ESR staff have arrived from Auckland and will be carrying out scene examinations at both addresses and also at the Whangarei St John Ambulance Station.
“Police are still working to establish the circumstances surrounding this man’s death. We are asking any members of the public who may have witnessed a group of men gathered in the Whangarei or Kamo areas in the early hours of this morning to contact Whangarei Police,” says Detective Inspector Burke.
Police will not be releasing the victim’s name until such time as formal identification has taken place.
A post-mortem will be carried out tomorrow.
