Hamilton Police investigating the attempted robbery of a liquor store in the City overnight are hoping security camera images will help in the identifying of the offender.
Detective Sergeant Simon Cherry of the Hamilton CIB said a man entered the premises of the Hillcrest Super Liquor store on Cambridge Rd about 9.42pm.
"He entered with his face covered with a scarf or bandanna and produced a butcher's knife from his pocket or from under his clothing and presented it at the two staff members behind the counter, demanding they put all the money in his bag."
"That back was a distinctive black and grey All Blacks backpack with a large white fern on the front of it. He placed a backpack on the counter at which time a third staff member appeared from the back of the shop and verbally challenged him."
Mr Cheery said at this point the offender who grabbed the bag and fled the store, running diagonally across the road and down Masters Ave.
The offender was described as being of slim build, about 183cm tall and wearing a black and white scarf or bandanna over his face, a black hooded sweatshirt with a white shirt with blue writing across the bottom of its back underneath, light coloured track-pants and a black beanie on his head.
Anyone recognising the offender in the attached photographs or who has information on his identity is asked to contact Detective Lee Samphier at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200.
