Police are relieved that a dangerous display of driving during a fleeing driver situation earlier today didn’t result in serious harm.
Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown Police, is pleased no further incident occurred as a result of the driving.
“The driving behaviour of those involved was reckless and considerably dangerous providing there were four people in the vehicle.”
“Not only did they place themselves in danger by continuing to flee police, but they put a large number of other motorists in danger on the roads due to the distance that they travelled.”
As a result of the incident, police have charged three males and a female in relation to the fleeing driver situation in Queenstown earlier today.
Two males, aged 19 and 23, have been charged with reckless driving, failing to stop for flashing lights, three thefts in relation to petrol drive offs, and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
A male and a female, both aged 14, have been charged with three thefts in relation to petrol drive offs and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
At approximately 7.55am this morning, a fleeing driver situation was initiated after the vehicle failed to stop for police.
The situation, which spanned between Alexandra and Queenstown, took over one and a half hours to come to an end after the vehicle stopped due to a movement of sheep on the road.
At a number of times, police deployed road spikes in an effort to stop the vehicle, which reduced one wheel to its rim.
As the matter is now before the courts, police are unable to provide any further details.
