Dr Nina Westera has been awarded the 2014 International Investigative Interviewing Research Group (iIIRG) Practitioner Excellence Award.

This award recognises Dr Westera’s dedication to developing and implementing an evidence-based approach to interviewing within New Zealand Police.

Detective Superintendent Rod Drew National Manager Criminal Investigations said Dr Westera developed the model while working as an investigative interviewing advisor at Police National Headquarters.

“Good investigative interviewing practice enhances our ability to establish the truth and strengthens our commitment to victims, whilst holding offenders accountable for their actions,” Mr Drew said.

“We are proud of our investigative interviewing programme, the work Nina accomplished for us, and the work she continues to do at Griffiths University.”

Nina is currently a Research Fellow at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Policing and Security & School of Criminology and Criminal Justice - Griffiths University.

She officially resigned from NZ  Police in December 2013 after a period of leave without pay while continuing her research with Griffiths University.

This prestigious international award was presented at the 2014 Conference in Lausanne, Switzerland.
