Fleeing Driver Incident – Counties Manukau

1 min read

Counties Manukau Police confirm one person is in a serious condition in hospital and two others have received minor injuries following a fleeing driver incident this afternoon.

Police were initially called to respond following reports of a stolen vehicle in Whitford that was suspected to have been involved in an earlier burglary.

The vehicle was seen by Police on Sandstone Road at around 12:40pm, but when signalled by Police to stop, the driver failed to do so, and fled from Police. Officers then activated their lights and sirens and initiated a short pursuit which lasted around one minute. Police deployed road spikes but the vehicle crashed shortly after while attempting to avoid the spikes near the intersection of Whitford Park Road.

The three occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital, including two males who have minor injuries, and one female, who is in a serious condition. She is believed to have not been wearing a seatbelt.

A Police investigation into the incident is ongoing and the matter is being referred to the IPCA.
