At approximately 7.15pm tonight (19 March 2015) emergency services were alerted to an industrial incident involving one person at a facility south of Timaru. One employee has been confirmed as deceased at the scene.
The death has been referred to the Coroner who will determine the cause of death. No details of the deceased person or the location of the incident will be released until the process to inform next of kin has been completed.
Canterbury Police investigations into the incident are ongoing and WorkSafe New Zealand have been advised.
Canterbury Police will not be making any further comment tonight.
An update will be provided before 5pm tomorrow.
