Fatal Hamilton bus crash the subject of a number of investigations

1 min read

Traffic diversions are in place and emergency services are working to clear the scene after a fatal collision between a bus and a car at a busy Hamilton intersection this afternoon.

Acting Waikato Road Policing Manager, Inspector Marcus Lynam, said the crash happened about 4.40pm at the four-way intersection of Forest Lake and Te Rapa Roads and Ulster and Victoria Streets.

"The intersection is controlled by traffic lights and the crash is currently the subject of a number of investigations including those by the Serious Crash Unit and the Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit and it is too early to confirm which vehicle was at fault.

"A woman driving a car involved in the collision with the bus was killed in the crash while her male passenger has been taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance suffering from what we believe are arm injuries."

Mr Lynam said the bus suffered damage in the collision that prevented it being stopped at the scene but it came to a halt a short distance away and the driver is currently being interviewed by Police.

"As we were to establish the circumstances of the crash, Police would like to extend their sympathies to the family of the woman driving the car and wish the passenger a speedy recovery."
