Fatal Crash - Silverdale

1 min read

At approximately 9:30pm last night Waitemata Police located a vehicle that had crashed after it was observed by members of the public travelling at speed and on the wrong side of the road.

Prior to the crash, a police patrol unit in the area saw the vehicle speed past and attempted to locate it.

After locating and speaking with a member of the public who had witnessed the car being driven at speed, the crashed vehicle was located shortly afterwards on the corner of East Coast Road and Hibiscus Highway, Silverdale. It had collided with another vehicle and a traffic pole.

The driver of the speeding vehicle died at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital in a moderate condition.

The Police Serious Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene and will investigate the incident.  Early indications are that speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.

The name of the deceased will not be released until family members have been informed.
