Police are continuing to investigate a fatal vehicle crash which occurred over night on Matangi Road in Matangi.
Police were alerted to the crash scene at approximately 7.00am this morning where a red Chevrolet Blazer with a blue driver’s door was found crashed in a small stream.
The male driver, 26 year-old Kyle Jason Sutherland of Hamilton was found deceased at the scene; and in naming Kyle Police wish to extend their sympathies to Kyle’s family.
As part of establishing what has occurred, we are appealing to the public for help in trying to trace Mr Sutherland’s movements before the crash. We do know that he appears to have been heading west on Matangi road when the crash occurred.
Mr Sutherland was last seen at approximately 7.15pm the night before where he was visiting a relative. When he left, he indicated he was going to visit a friend in Matangi and possibly go to the supermarket.
Police are asking that if anyone saw Mr Sutherland’s car, or if he visited them or have seen him last night, that they get in contact with the police.
Mr Sutherland has also moved addresses recently, and police are wanting to speak with his new flatmates from his Hamilton address.
Building a complete picture of the movements and actions of Kyle before the crash will assist us to understand what has caused the crash and help to provide some answers to the family.
