Canterbury Police can confirm there has been a fatal crash shortly before midnight last night (18 January 2016) involving a single vehicle on Annex Road in Christchurch near the motorway.
The driver and sole occupant, a 29 year old female, was taken to Christchurch Hospital by ambulance but passed away shortly after 2am.
The death has been referred to the Coroner. No further details of the deceased will be released until formal identification and the process to inform next of kin has been completed.
Police investigations are continuing to determine what caused the car to leave the road and collide with a concrete structure.
