Operation Tracey - call 0800 000 111

Waitemata Police are extremely pleased with the public response to the Tracey Patient investigation and have received dozens of calls to the dedicated 0800 number.

Close to one hundred people have called the 0800 000 111 number, with various pieces of information.

"We've heard from people who have never called Police before and have told us that they've thought about the case for the past forty years. We have quite a number of suspect nominations and pieces of information from people about suspicious behaviour they witnessed at the time. We've also heard from nearly thirty people with theories around what the 126040 number means" says Detective Inspector John Sutton, Waitemata Police.

"Detectives will continue to work through the information provided, assess it's relevance and prioritise the enquiries we'll be able to make as a result of that information. We can't say enough how grateful we are to the people who have called. There are some people who've had to leave a message and we can assure everyone they will certainly get a call back from the investigation team, if we haven't got back to them already" he says.

"Today our thoughts are with Tracey's family, this is a very difficult time for them and extend our sympathies to them. I know that they are somewhat comforted by the fact that Tracey's death has obviously not been forgotten by the public.

"To the person responsible I say this; forty years ago today you took a life and destroyed several others, it was a terrible crime and it's time now to end this; come forward and speak to us"  says Detective Inspector John Sutton.
