Encouraging response from public in appeal for sightings of vehicle

1 min read

Officers are encouraged by the positive response from the public after more than a dozen calls have been received relating to sightings of the vehicle Whanganui man, Whetu Teaola Hansen was last seen driving and also of Mr Hansen himself.

Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Harrison said: "There is a steady flow of information coming in for both vehicle sightings and his movements up until when he disappeared."

"We have received some valuable information relating to sightings of his vehicle at petrol stations in the Palmerston North area and we have uplifted CCTV footage from these stations. Officers are currently analysing the footage to try and piece together his movements.

"The public can help us solve this homicide investigation and I want to emphasise that just because we have received an influx of information, it doesn't mean that we don't need more.

"If you know something, no matter how small it might be, please contact Police. You could have that piece of information that could help us solve this crime and bring some much needed relief to Mr Hansen's family who are missing him greatly."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Dave Wilson (06) 213 9595. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Note: Detective Senior Sergeant Harrison is unavailable to interview today due to investigative commitments.
