At about midday today a male aged 85 years fell approximately 60 metres down a steep bank onto rocks and the water . He fell from the rear of his property in Beach Rd, Castor Bay, Auckland.
He lost consciousness for a couple of hours before he was able to ring Emergency services at about 3 pm on his cell phone he had on his person. He was unable to move due to injuries he sustained and was in considerable pain.
Police, Fire, Ambulance and Wetspac Helicopter responded.
A Fire Rescue team abseiled down the cliff and a Police officer used a kayak to locate the man from below.
Immediate medical assistance was given before the Westpac Helicopter was called to winch him up.
It is understood he received multiple fractures. He is reported to be in a serious but stable condition in Auckland Hospital.
