Eketahuna crash victim named

Police can now release the name of the man who died after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a power pole at the corner of Herbert Street and Alfredton Road, Eketahuna, yesterday.

He was Adrian James Ihaka, aged 36, of Eketahuna.

Officer are continuing to speak to witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the crash.

“Long weekends are generally something people look forward to, but for this man’s family and the families of the four other people that have lost their lives on our roads, this weekend will constantly be marred with sadness,” says Senior Sergeant Kris Burbery, Acting Central District Road Policing Manager.

“It doesn’t matter if you travel on four wheels, two wheels, or feet. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and if we all play our part we can ensure no more lives are needlessly lost on our roads.”  

The crash investigation is ongoing and the death has now been referred to the Coroner.
